2022 – Global Lounge: Global Lounge Commons Marketplace — $30,000
Global Lounge will create the Global Lounge Outdoor Market, an art-infused outdoor gathering space. The pop-up market will attract consumers seeking experiences with global flavor and foster relationships across communities. The target audience are low-income, refugee, and immigrant populations who will benefit the most through new economic and cultural exchange opportunities. Funds will support amenities to create an outdoor marketplace including sun shading sails, canopies/tents, folded tables, chairs, and structure/fence for portable restrooms.
2021 – Boise Contemporary Theater: Boise Idaho Playwright of Color (BIPOC) Play Readers Festival — $30,000
Boise Contemporary Theater will bring playwrights, actors, and directors from across the country to Boise to hear new voices and new stories to our community. IWCF funds the first year of an annual event to cover playwright and theater salaries, the rental of the Morrison Center, and travel and housing for artists.
2020 – McCall Music Society: High Mountain Strings Rural Youth Orchestra Development – $26,000
Funds will be used for the purchase of instruments and to underwrite strings instruction for youth from Valley and Adams counties. This will also help grow our small McCall Youth Orchestra by expanding our music lesson program to foster young musical talent for a full youth orchestra.
2019 – Opera Idaho: Opera Idaho Van for School Outreach Programs — $30,000
Opera Idaho’s education outreach programs bring free opera performances to elementary schools in the Treasure Valley and surrounding areas, reaching over 20,000 children annually. This grant will fund a van for transporting artists, instruments, costumes and sets to schools, as well as locations for community outreach performances to increase the number of schools and expand the areas of the state they are able to reach.
2018 – Jannus/Refugee Speakers Bureau: Community Building through Story – $30,000
We are requesting funding to bring The Moth, an internationally known storytelling program, to Boise, Idaho for a two-day Community Building Event and to build capacity of the Refugee Speakers Bureau. Our desired impact is to use the rich cultural craft of storytelling to create connections and meaningful personal experiences that foster greater well-being among people and advance understanding between refugee and non-refugee, Muslim and non-Muslim neighbors. We believe the process of seeing the humanity in one another instead of the headlines begins with a story. We will reach hundreds in Boise and more throughout the Treasure Valley by leveraging the power of storytelling to build community. A part time coordinator will continue to develop cultural events and partnerships to expand the Refugee Speakers Bureau. Our partner, Welcoming America, will share these strategies nationwide. The Idaho Office for Refugees will lead the project and will engage many additional community partners.
2017 – Boise Contemporary Theater: The MakeSpace Loft at BCT – $30,000
MakeSPace Loft at BCT will be a dedicated space for BCT Theater Lab, launched in 2011, which is devoted to the development of new work by young artists. It also will serve many other students, artists and organizations who lack affordable, modern space where they can create, practice and perform inspiring new works for our community.
2016 – West Central Highlands Resource Conservation and Development: Sweet Syringa Hall: — $30,000
This 1897 building, owned by Syringa Club since 1991, is in desperate need of structural repairs. Following a severe wind event, roof joists were patched, but roof connection to walls for stabilization during seismic and wind forces is needed. The IWCF grant will fund new joists to tie the roof to the walls, resulting in a new roof.
2015 – The Cancer Connection Idaho: Write from the Heart—$20,000
Allocated over two years, this IWCF grant will transform a therapeutic outlet for teens into an annual program. It will celebrate teens, raise awareness of their emotional needs as they undergo cancer-related challenges, and bring catharsis and healing through the act of writing. In 2016, a booklet containing the teens’ winning essays will be published, and the program will add writing mentors.
2014 – Idaho Shakespeare Festival: Van for ISF’s Educational Tours ITY and Shakespearience – $20,000
IWCF funds will be used to buy a touring vehicle, allowing the company to travel across Idaho to bring live theater to students in K-12 schools, as well as to teachers and community members.
2013 – Glenns Ferry Historical Museum: Where Art and History Meet – $24,654
This project will continue the renovation of a historic schoolhouse into an accessible museum, create an outdoor venue/meeting place for Cultural Heritage programs in the summer and renovate and equip an area of the indoor space with technology to support the digitization of existing historical archives year around.
2012 – Payette Public Library: Amphitheater for the Library – $25,000
The Payette Public Library will build an amphitheater connected to the new library expansion. This will be used for library events as well as community events.
2011 – National Old-Time Fiddlers, Inc.: “Squeaky Strings” After School Music Program - $20,000
Adds new types of instruments and doubles the number of children in current program, also providing a 3-day summer music camp. Community Impact: The “Fiddle Capital of the World,” Weiser, Idaho, currently has no orchestra or stringed instrument.
2010 – Boise Community Radio: 89.9 Production Studios - $24,000
Purchase audio production equipment to support transition from Internet broadcasting to a terrestrial radio signal.
2009 – The Center for the Arts: Empowering and Connecting Youth through the Arts - $9,850
Offer a full range of arts experiences in after school programs for underserved youth in Canyon County.
2008 – Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts: Theater Lighting & Sound System – $25,000
Provided funding to TriCA for lighting and sound equipment for use in classes and dance performances.
2007 – Publishing Young Authors, Inc: Writing Clubs Expansion – $7,200
Supported after-school clubs in Boise that emphasize creative writing and publishing.
2007 – Children’s Dance Institute: Cultural Respect Dance Program – $10,000
Provided the funding for an additional 300 children to participate in a dance movement program that explores the dances and traditions of non-majority cultures and races.
2006 – Idaho Public Television: “Color of Conscience” Documentary – $10,000
Provided seed money for research and acquiring film footage for Idaho human rights video documentary.
